Oxford County Paramedic Services provides land ambulance services at the Primary Care Service level as defined by the Ambulance Act and its Regulations and Standards.
It is the duty of every paramedic of Oxford County Paramedic Services to:
- Ensure the well-being of the patient is the primary concern.
- Conserve life, alleviate pain and suffering and promote health, and to encourage the quality and equal availability of emergency medical care.
- Provide care based on human need with respect for human dignity, unrestricted by consideration of nationality, race, creed, colour, status, sex, religion, sexual orientation, type of illness, or mental or physical disability.
- Without fail, protect and maintain the patient's safety, dignity and privacy.
- Preserve and protect the confidentiality of any information, either medical or personal, acquired through professional contact with a patient, except where the disclosure of such information is necessary to the treatment of the patient and the safety of other health care professionals or is required by the employer or the law.
- Not use professional knowledge, skills, equipment or pharmaceuticals in any enterprise detrimental to the profession or the public well being.

- Encourage the trust and confidence of the public through high standards of professional practice, conduct, competence and appearance.
- Maintain professional competence and demonstrate concern for the competence of other members of the EMS health care team.
- Assume responsibility in defining and upholding the standards of professional practice and education, for individual professional actions and judgment, and knows and upholds the laws which affect the practice of Paramedicine in Ontario.
- Protect the public by not delegating to a person less qualified any service which requires the professional competence of a Paramedic.
Oxford County Paramedic Services has a comprehensive quality practice review process that ensures operational and paramedic performance is continually monitored for compliance.
In addition to the internal processes audits, external audits are also completed by the South West Regional Base Hospital and the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care – Emergency Health Services Branch.
